Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Juliana Marmon, a pediatrician from Concord, Massachusetts
Today's Final Jeopardy - Tuesday, September 20, 2022 (1)
Kelly Shannon-Henderson, a classics professor from Cincinnati, Ohio
Today's Final Jeopardy - Tuesday, September 20, 2022 (2)
Emmett Stanton, a freelance writer from Baltimore, Maryland (2-day total: $41,800)
Today's Final Jeopardy - Tuesday, September 20, 2022 (3)

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

In a very close game yesterday, Emmett Stanton from Baltimore pulled out his second victory. Today, he takes on Juliana Marmon and Kelly Shannon-Henderson. Unlike Luigi de Guzman, though, who was averaging 50 buzzer attempts per game, Emmett is averaging just 35.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they can, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

George Washington gave the first State of the Union address in 1790 at Federal Hall in New York City, as was required of him by Article II of the U.S. Constitution. The timing of the address has varied; for many years, it was sent to Congress in December. Nowadays, it usually takes place in January or February. Interestingly, Washington called for a “national University” in his first address; Congress, however, elected not to create one.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • It has been my experience that, once again, contestants underbet Daily Doubles and overbet Final Jeopardy!, especially considering that a Daily Double is generally easier than a Final Jeopardy! is.
  • Today’s box score: September 20, 2022 Box Score.
  • I’m definitely adding Kelly to my list of potential “Second Chance” participants; that being said, I strongly suspect that my list will be longer than the number of spots in the tournament at the end of the season.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Kelly $19,800 Emmett $15,400 Juliana $3,400)

Emmett: If Kelly bets to cover you and is incorrect, she falls to $8,799. Thus, you should limit your bet to $6,599. (Actual bet: $15,400)

Kelly: The standard cover bet over Emmett is $11,001. (Actual bet: $11,001)

Juliana: Assuming Emmett and Kelly bet conventionally, there’s not much you can do today. Bet whatever you like. (Actual bet: $0)
