Apartment intruder faces rape and burglary charges By GLENN E. RICE Staff Writer A convicted felon was charged Friday with rape and burglary after he allegedly forced his way into a Midtown apartment earlier in the day and attacked a woman, police said. Andre Boyd, who had gotten out of prison last November after a burglary conviction, was being held in the County Jail. Bond was set at $200,000 for Boyd, 27. The attack Friday started shortly after midnight as two 23-yearold women walked home after they got off work, said Kansas City Police Sgt.

James Keane with the sex crimes unit. The women noticed a man following them. They became nervous and decided to stop at a store. The man went on. The women made it safely to their apartment in the 300 block of East 43rd Street, police said.

But 15 minutes later, while they prepared for bed, the man forced his way through a screen door and attacked one of the women in the living room. The woman screamed and fought with the attacker, police said. The noise alerted her roommate in another part of the apartment. She ran into the room and tried to pull the attacker off the other woman, but failed. The roommate then ran to the balcony and called police with a cordless phone.

Officers arrived moments later and arrested the man, who they said was trying to rape the woman. Man who called police is accused of strangling woman smoked crack cocaine in the doorway of the building, and Bosler passed out. Brooks allegedly grabbed Bosler by the neck and shook her. When she did not respond, police said, Brooks ran to a pay phone and called for help. Brooks then ran back to Bosler and tried to revive her a second time, police said.

She still did not' respond. Brooks ran back to the pay phone and called police. Bosler was pronounced dead at the scene. Police questioned Brooks, who said he saw the woman's body about 1:30 a.m. as he was walking in the area.
